It is a distinctive South African Western Cape style of cooking.

It is believed that it was formed a result of a combinations of styles from the Indian slaves that were brought to the Cape and styles from the Netherlands.

It is believed that the cooking style is largely characterised by the use of pimenta, chilli spice and Nutmeg among various other ingredients and styles of cooking.
